Travis Perry-Dobro, Vocals:
Travis has been involved in music from the age of 10 when his mother bought him his first guitar.
Travis made a living in the music industry for 15 years before finally as his dad would say got a "real job"  in the Real estate business. Travis makes his home in Dothan Al. with his Wife, Laurie and Daughter, Bradi. Travis also owns and operates a Bluegrass music shop and recording studio in Dothan. He is the chairman and founder of the "Great American Bluegrass Festival" held at the Peanut festival fair grounds in April of each year. Travis has been a member of the band since 2006

Steve Kirkland – Lead vocals, rhythm guitar: Steve has been playing guitar since 1975 and singing since 1973 when he sang in the choir at Dothan High School. He was in the mixed chorus, allstate choir in 1974. He started singing in church 1975. Steve sang tenor and played electric bass with the Sonshine Boys quartet for 7 years. He has been singing bluegrass since 1985 as a member of three groups throughout the years. Steve puts his heart and soul in each song he sings and lends his tenor singing ability to the band’s vocal trio on several songs.

John Corbin – Acoustic Upright Bass: John began playing rock guitar at age 12. By the time he turned 20, his musical interests turned to country music. Five years later he began playing bluegrass music. John’s interest in bluegrass music lead him to pursue learning to play other instruments. He plays mandolin, dobro, and is currently learning to play the banjo. John began playing bass a year and a half ago when a local bluegrass band was being formed and they needed a bass player. John’s musical background helped him quickly master the bass. His solid bass playing is the backbone of ‘Pure and Simple’ bluegrass

Greg Whigham – Banjo: Greg lives well off the beaten path in Houston Co. Alabama. It is said that he lives so far back off the road that his only neighbors are rattle snakes, armadillos, and occasional deer and turkey.  Greg has two wonderful children Jessica and Caleb.  Greg is a Native American with three lines of ancestors that can be traced to the Cherokee Nation.  Greg began playing guitar in 1975 and became interested in bluegrass music later that year after attending the Henderson Bluegrass Festival near Troy, Alabama watching a young fella play banjo.  In 1976, he borrowed a banjo, bought the Earl Scruggs Five String banjo instruction book and began to self instruct himself how to play banjo and has been playing ever since. He has played in four different bluegrass bands prior to his current association with Pure and Simple. Greg’s traditional banjo style keeps the songs performed by Pure and Simple close to the roots of bluegrass music.  He currently plays a custom banjo built by the well-known banjo builder Frank Neat from Russell Springs, Kentucky.

Mike Hutto – Lead guitar, baritone vocals: Mike handles lead guitar duties for Pure and Simple and sings baritone, except when he sings lead vocals on several songs. He began playing guitar at around eight years of age and he also plays fiddle, mandolin, banjo, and is a ready source of lyrics for numerous old bluegrass and gospel songs that many newcomers to bluegrass have probably never heard.

Ronnie Retherford – Mandolin: Ronnie plays mandolin for Pure and Simple. He has been playing mandolin off and on since 1976. He became interested in bluegrass music in college and had been playing guitar for a couple of years when a banjo player encouraged him to buy a mandolin to help keep a steady rhythm for their fledgling group. After learning basic chords, he began learning fiddle tunes which he still plays and enjoys today. He has played both mandolin and guitar in several different bands through the years. He occasionally plays bass when needed in local jam sessions and plays guitar and mandolin for the praise and worship service at his church. Ronnie has always enjoyed the fellowship of bluegrass musicians and feels the current group is by far the best he has ever had the honor to be a part of.
